How a fuel-optimise map works
An economy or Blue Optimize style map recalibrates the engine for efficiency rather than peak power — improving low-down torque so the engine works less hard to do the same job. On a diesel that spends a lot of time on the motorway or towing, that translates into real fuel savings, often quoted around 10% depending on the engine and driving.
The extra torque means you can hold a higher gear and use less throttle for the same progress, which is where the saving actually comes from.
Where it works — and where it doesn't
High-mileage diesels are the classic win: vans, tow cars, motorway commuters. The map pays for itself over time. Petrol cars see less dramatic economy gains, and a heavy right foot will erase any saving on any vehicle — the map gives you the opportunity to use less fuel, it can't force you to.
If your mileage is low and mostly town driving, the economy case is weaker; you might value the performance and drivability more than the pennies saved.
Realistic expectations
We quote the expected economy figures for your specific engine rather than a blanket promise. The saving is real on the right vehicle driven sensibly — a genuine improvement, not magic.
How much can I save?
On a suitable diesel driven sensibly, often around 10%. It varies by engine and driving style — we give the figures for your exact vehicle.
Can I have economy and performance?
Yes — our Merlin Blend sits between the two, giving a useful power lift while keeping efficiency in mind.
